Mike & Ike’s, famous for their fruity, chewy candy brand. Originally created in 1940 by the Just Born company of Bethlehem, rumours have swirled since their creation of the brand where the name came from, with some believing the name was created after a company competition. Other theories include a vaudeville song titled “Mike and Ike” and the “IKE” Eisenhower era.
Their most famous creation, the Mega Mix, is a soft chewy candy with ultra fruity flavours. Flavours include Caribbean Punch, Strawberry-Banana, Paradise Punch, Grape Soda, Kiwi Banana, Mango Delight, Watermelon, Pineapple Banana, Peach Berry, and Blue Raspberry.
Candies like these lend themselves so well to recipes that they’ve become a firm favourite with UK consumers, with some describing them as like Jelly Babies but better, and similar to Pringles in that once you start with these sweets you just can’t stop.
